L. MARIS 18K Gold Diamond & Emerald Statement Necklace
A bold, one-of-a-kind statement necklace by L. MARIS Jewels, combining substantial 18K yellow gold craftsmanship with hundreds of natural diamonds and subtle emerald accents. Its sculptural construction and impressive weight give the piece an exceptional physical presence, while the repeating geometric elements create rhythm and movement around the neckline.
Rather than being built around a single dominant gemstone, this necklace uses its entire composition as the centerpiece. The broad front section is formed by a sequence of elaborate gold elements richly set with diamonds, creating an architectural silhouette. Small natural emeralds introduce flashes of green among the brilliance of the stones.
The necklace is set with 476 natural round brilliant-cut diamonds, with a combined estimated weight of approximately 4.2 carats, together with seven natural emeralds. The diamonds are described as near colorless, approximately G-I range, with VS-I1 clarity. The emeralds have a combined estimated weight of approximately 0.10 carats. With a remarkable total weight of 197.65 grams, the necklace is an unusually substantial piece of fine jewelry. These characteristics were independently documented by the Assay Office of Latvia in 2024.
The jewel is associated with L. MARIS Jewels of Athens, Greece, and retains an earlier L. MARIS Jewel Report containing a photograph of the necklace itself. L. MARIS was a family jewelry business which, according to the collection's provenance, continued a jewelry-making tradition dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. The family firm no longer exists, making its surviving late 20th-century creations part of a finite legacy.
According to the collection records, L. MARIS created these important pieces individually rather than as serial production. Each was conceived as a unique jewel. This necklace was acquired by a private collector from Latvia and was preserved principally as a work of jewelry art. It was rarely worn and remained in the collection for most of its history.
Its exceptional gold weight, elaborate construction, hundreds of individually set gemstones, surviving L. MARIS documentation and later independent testing make the necklace more than an impressive luxury object. It is a one-of-a-kind example of late 20th-century Mediterranean jewelry craftsmanship from a family workshop that no longer exists.
